Franco-Prussian War - Magdeburg Cuirassiers, No.7

Manufacturer:   TeamMiniatures

Scale:   1:30 (60mm)

Hi,

just a part of my collection of toysoldiers - a unit of Magdeburg Cuirassiers, No.7, in the times of the Franco-Prussian War 1870-1871.

This regiment also fought in the battle of Mars-la-Tour and was part of the "von Bredow´s Death Ride" ("Todesritt der Brigade Bredow").

Napoleonic Wars - Tyrolean flagbearer in 60m

Manufacturer:   PianoWargames (3d-printed)

Scale:   1:30 (60mm)

Hi,

today´s post is about my latest painted figure from the excellent range of PianoWargames.

I again scaled up the stl-file to get a 60mm figure suitable for my collection of toysoldiers. The stl-file normally has 28mm figures. To show the difference I have added his smaller version within two photographs.

SYW - Another game using the rules of "Field of battle 3"

Manufacturers:   FrontRank, Crusader, WargamesFoundry, DreispitzMiniatures

Scale:   28mm

Hi again,

today´s post is about our last game for SYW using the rules of "Field of Battle 3".

It has been a very cool game and we had a lot of fun. The rules of FOB3 are really great and you can play a game with a lot of units and figures within a few hours.

The setup was that the Prussians had followed a smaller Austrian force which they wanted to crush within a battle. For they missed to observe the terrain perfectly they realized too late that they were led into a trap. There was not only the Austrian force they followed but another two Austrian brigades which began to fall into the Prussians flank and also into the rear. The Austrians outnumbered the Prussians 2:1 in total. A really complicated situation for the Prussians.

The fight was fierce and brought a major victory to the Austrians. I was playing the Prussians and three comrades played the Austrians. I can´t remember a game there I rolled as many "1"´s as during this game. Once I had to check for the leader of a brigade if he would have been killed in action. Anything but a "1" would have saved him. Guess the result of the roll - yes, you are right for it was a "1". So this brigade (my complete cavalry and horse artillery) wasn´t able to initiate melees or something else. It had become a sitting duck. I was lucky that the Austrian counterparts could not take advantage of this for they rolled also horrible results. Within the game you can try to get a substitude leader with a special card. I missed to get a further commander and so the whole brigade kept being without command.

If  the Austrians would have had more better cards I am sure this game would have ended within 3 hours. So the fight was lasting for 5 hours. But it has only been a delay of the upcoming defeat. In the end I had no morale points left and a dropped "Morale" card. I had to check for the Commander in Chief and - I rolled another "1". Frederick the Great had left the battlefield and the Prussians had been defeated heavily.

It has been a very good scenario. It has been dealing with my favourite time of warfare. It has been a very good company of gamers. It has been a great game.

The book from that we chose the scenario.

The Prussian force at the bottom and the Austrian army at the top.

The Austrian force that has been followed by the Prussians.

The Prussian ordre de bataille

The second Austrian force also coming from the front...

...and the third Austrian force set up in the rear of the Prussians.

First move of the Prussians - the idea was to crush into the smaller Austrian force in the rear while leaving a smaller detachment of troops falling back and dealing with the other two Austrians brigades.

The Austrians came up slowly for they rolled their dice badly. But the Austrian cavalry managed to come close very fast.

The third Austrian force getting into position.

The Austrian cavalry crushing into the Prussian cavalry.

With almost no effect. But the Prussian cavalry was not able to take advantage.

The Austrian infantry marching forward.

Meanwhile the Prussians had managed to get in contact with the Austrians that came up from the rear.

Prussian Grenadiers winning a firefight against Austrian fusiliers causing them to flight (top left).

Fierce fighting at the small river.

The rearguard of the Prussians falling back. One regiment of cavalry is already missing completely.

No chance for the Prussians to defeat the Austrians at the river.

They even lost two further regiments.

The end of the game - Frederick the Great has left the battlefield.

An overview on the widespread battlefield.
