Hi,
today´s post is about our visit to the museum "Fort de la Pompelle" near Reims.
The fort was part of the defence line of Reims in WorldWar 1 and it had really interesting exponates.
I have to point out that I am not very firm to the GreatWar and so I was kind of impressed to become to know that even Russian soldiers had been fighting on the Western Front. There has been a expedition corps of about 18.000 Russian soldiers fighting aside of the French Army. I didn´t know about that.
The pictures show a lot of stuff and sometimes I was able to find further explanations which I also have put here.
There are also a lot of photos about the "Friese" collection, one of the largest collections of German "Pickelhauben". It was very interesting to see this great variety of helmets of the early years of the GreatWar.
We noticed that the cashier was speaking German and asked him why. He told us that he was born in Vienna and his parents moved to France when he was three years old. Just to top this we also talked about wargaming and he told us that he is also a wargamer, but not for historical subjects, though he would like to do. He pointed out that in France the community for wargaming is mostly about Warhammer or fantasy.
I forgot to ask his name but I gave him the name of my blog.
If he should read this, please leave a comment. We enjoyed the conversation with you very much.
Hope you like the photos. :)
Cheers
Mike
