Rome - Republican Army - Hastatii

Manufacturer:  Xyston
Scale:  15mm

Hi,

I hope you all had a great Christmas and the list of presents you got is rather long. :)

Today I´m posting a few pictures of the Republican Romans Krisztian Takasc is painting for me and he does a great job.
I don´t like painting 15mm figures, but I like to have an impressive army.
Impressive for me means that I decided to have at least seven different troop types each with eight stands consisting of eight figures.
In addition there will be some skirmishers, too.

These troops are planned for an army for Armati and could also be used for Hail Caesar.
The only thing missing is to finalize the bases and some repainting on a few figures that had been damaged by transportation.

But the first troop type with 64 men is placed on its bases and looks like this.

Cheers
Mike

Just consider to be one of the opposing enemies realizing that there will be a lot of pila thrown at yours very soon.

A view front the flank.

Another formation.

Again a few from a flank.

Not to forget the other side.

The figures for the next paint job ready for cleaning. I hate this job. :(

This is how the next 64 men will look like - a strong force of Roman Triarii.

100 Followers - Thank you

Today I want to thank you all for following my blog.

It´s always very motivating seeing the number of followers growing steadily and also to get your comments on the individual posts.

Just to celebrate this event I decided to paint up a new figure of Crusader showing an Austrian Grenzer of  Regiment Karlstädter-Ottochaner looting.

He is drinking to your well and health :)

Cheers

Markers for SYW

Manufacturer:  FrontRank
Scale:  28mm

In my penultimate post I showed some pictures from the markers Christopher (aka Axebreaker) produced for OperationSquad.
I liked them so much that I decided to make some on my own for my SYW project.
I want to use them to mark units that are retreating but don´t know if this will work, so I only made two of them yet.

Tomorrow were will be a little convention (also with Axebreaker) where we want to play BlackPowder.
So they will have their first action.

The sabres and the guns are from FrontRank.
I found them in my bits box.

As bases I used 5cent coins (Euro-cents).

Cheers

Thank you for nomination for "Liebster Blog"-Award

As most of you certainly know there has been an Award within the last two or three weeks called "Liebster Blog".

The rules of the award are:
- "Copy and paste" the award on your blog, and talk about it a bit.
- post a link back to the blogger who gave you the award
- Select for the award your five favourite blogs with less than 200 followers, leaving a comment on one of their post to notify them that they have won the award. You need also to list them in your own blog.
- Enjoy the moment, knowing that you have just made someone's day.
- Of course, there is no obligation to pass the award, but it is a good deed really.

I am very honoured that I also have been nominated for this "Liebster Blog"-Award by the following hobbyists (in order of date of nomination).
Thank you for nomination, visiting and enjoying my blog.
Please have a look at their blogs, too. They are really worth it.

I´m sure that all of us are often scanning the different blogs of other wargamers and search for material they could use for their own projects, let it be tutorials for building terrain or stuff like that, or even to have an inspiring look at the great figures or articles that can be seen on the different blogs.

There are a lot of very good blogs in the worldwide web and it is very difficult to decide which five to nominate for my "own" "Liebster Blog"-Award.

And here is my decision:

I like this blog very much.
I´m really fascinated by Jay´s self-made Fort William Henry.
You should have a closer look at the ten tutorials about its formation.

Nick has posted a lot of excellent painted figures.
He is a great artist and his blog worth a visit.

3. Michi Sehl from tableterror.blogspot.de
Also a very good blog with a lot of outstanding miniatures.
I´ve been to his house twice and had the chance to look at his figures personally.
Breathtaking.
Don´t forget to search for his scratchbuilded Peterbilt 281 he posted in Juli 2012.

Superb miniatures (just have a look at his SAGA-figures) and a lot of good information.

I like his brilliantly painted regiments for the SYW very much.
It´s always very inspiring and motivating and helps me to hang on my own project.

I hope that you enjoy surfing through the mentioned blogs (including the blogs of the fellows who nominated me) as well as I do.

Cheers
Mike

Operation Squad - Fallschirmjägers and Screaming Eagles

Hi,

yesterday Franz and I visited our friend Christopher (aka Axebreaker - please have a look at his great blog: http://www.christopher-bunkerhill.blogspot.com) at his home to play another brilliant game of Operation Squad in 28mm.

The setting of the table was again excellent and real eye candy as you can see on the first photos.

Christopher is preparing the terrain while Franz is fascinated by Chris´ artwork.

He just produced the telephone masts the same morning.

It really looks like the Normandy.

Just like the photo out of a holiday catalog. :)

In the middle of the photo you can see a little hill that has been one of the two objects there a fierce fight took place.
During the game and its bloody running in the woods on the hilltop we started to call it "Hamburger Hill".
The other objective was the house in the background.

After the terrain had been placed Christopher set up his Fallschirmjägers alternately to my Screaming Eagles.
Just a funny thing for Christopher is an US-American and I am German.

Franz was our game guide and had to look up the rules for it was our first game with vehicles and so the rules had been different to our earlier games.

As I don´t have any miniatures painted for WWII yet (I will do some Japanese for the PacificWar) I had the honour to play with the fantastic figures of Christopher.

The vehicles had been chosen from Franz´ collection and looked also very good.

A look at the opposing squads - here the Fallschirmjägers supported by a SdKfz 231.

And here the Screaming Eagles with a M20.

Photos of the figures after setting.

I think you can imagine that we had a really great game though my Screaming Eagles performed bad.
It was a decisive victory for Christopher (Congratulations :) ).

We formerly often gamed with different markers that had been green, blue or red glass stones.
Christopher always got eye pains as he had a look at the table with those markers on it.
He loves gaming tables that look as realistic as possible.
After he showed us the markers he produced for OperationSquad I have to agree.
Never use glass stones if you could create such wonderful markers as shown in the next pictures.

The different markers in total view.

The helmets are markers for running figures.

The red ones mark a figure as wounded.

The stones are telling that a mini is pinned.

The MP´s stand for jammed guns and the ammo crates for "out of ammo".

Bushes mark the figures as "hidden".

And these markers mean that a figure´s action is completed within the currently round.

After I had seen those fabulous markers I decided to create some similar ones for my SYW-project as I do not only need disruption markers but also markers for disordered units and so on.

Maybe you got inspired by this post for your own tables, too.
I wish you all the best and enjoy our hobby as much and as often as you can.

Cheers
Mike

SYW - Austrian Army - Grenzinfantry Karlstädter-Lykaner - Final Part

Manufacturer:  Crusader Miniatures
Scale:  28mm

Hi,

this is the final part of my Austrian unit for Maurice showing the Grenzinfantry Karlstädter-Lykaner.
The work in progress has been finished this morning. :)
I had a lot of fun painting these excellent figures from Crusader.

My units are not finished if they don´t include a disruption marker.
So here it is.

Though the unit is complete I couldn´t resist to paint another figure.
Within the pack of 4 wounded figures there are also 4 character figures.
I love these poses and want to make another base with these 4 characters each belonging to another regiment of Grenzers.
The first one is again from the Karlstädter-Lykaner and suits very well to my last word of this post:

"Cheers"

Mike
